There are fewer than 2,500 RPTs worldwide. It is the only official certification available to a piano technician in the US, and is nationally recognized. This honor and certification is bestowed by the Piano Technician's Guild, a national organization dedicated to promoting the highest standards in piano technology. Eathan Janney, PhD, RPT in the Floating Piano Factory Apprenticeship Program, from which he was the first student to graduate with the official certification of Registered Piano Technician (RPT). Isaac established himself in the field of piano technology over the course of four years of mentorship with Piano Technician Dr. He was fortunate to accrue extensive experience via years of servicing pianos throughout the five boroughs of New York City, working with Steinway New York as an authorized field technician, serving in the Piano Technicians Guild, and receiving mentorship from a number of excellent piano technicians and inspiring human beings. Currently, Isaac divides his time between our Tucson and Brooklyn operations, servicing pianos in both locations and offering business management to the technicians who work with us. Hailing from a family of musicians, scientists and entrepreneurs, Isaac is grateful to serve in a capacity that weaves these threads together in a richly rewarding vocation. You might not consider it, but excessively hard playing can cause a piano to go out of tune if the force of the hammer action is strong enough to stretch strings. Tilting or jostling can cause it to fall out of tune (as can the humidity and temperature changes of a new environment!).
